Description
Before discussing Le Bon’s role in this field, we must briefly mention Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis originally focused only on the individual, not the group.
Because of this, Freud’s writings on collective psychology—written late in his life—were dismissed by some of his students as unscientific, attributing them to old age and illness.
They were reluctant to associate psychoanalysis with anything beyond the individual psyche.
Thus, Freud’s later works were neglected, even though they laid foundations that remain influential, including in this book: The Psychology of Crowds.
